Indian’s Head Radiator Cap Mascot
This mascot is possibly the best known and most popular collectible. They once adorned the bonnet of Guy Trucks and Buses, but later on, they were produced by the factory as keepsakes, mounted on an ashtray.
The original makers were J. L. Tomey of Coventry ltd, whose mark is cast into the base.
Many copies have been taken from original Indian’s Heads, and made in Brass as well as the original Aluminium. Some copies are not so good, with details such as the writing and feathers blurred. The example in the picture above seems to be a good original, with all of the details showing clearly. When made for fitment to a vehicle, these would have been polished in the polishing shop at Guys.
This design is the same as would be fitted to the Wolf and Vixen Trucks of the fifties, as well as early Arab buses.

Here the Indian’s Head is mounted on an ashtray to make a presentation item. The makers of this piece were Wright and Pedley Ltd. The dates on the ashtray edge are -1914 1960-
